• Sebek Tenors Set to Bring Broadway, Opera and Pop to The Garden Party

Christian Sebek and his sons, Zachary and Eric, have performed together for years, delighting audiences with a unique combination of classical and contemporary music and Broadway show tunes. This year, the Sebek Tenors will perform at The Garden Party for the first time!

The Garden Party, Nutley Family Service Bureau’s (NFSB’s) largest community event and fundraiser of the year, will be held this Saturday, September 14 from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Mountsier-Hardie Garden at 205 Rutgers Place in Nutley.

Christian Sebek is known worldwide for his five years playing Piangi in “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway, including the 25-year anniversary at the Majestic Theatre. He has performed as the lead tenor role of Rodolfo in the Puccini opera “La Boheme” in Central Park, sang for Pope Benedict, and performed the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden.

Singing together as the Sebek Tenors has been an honor and a tremendous source of pride for the entire family. You can see several performances of the Sebek Tenors on their YouTube channel!

“This is my father’s brainchild,” said Zach Sebek, whose real estate company, Zachary Sebek Group, is a Garden Party sponsor. “Years ago, he brought up the idea of singing together with my brother and me. We perform mostly at charity events, but it’s a great way for us to hang out together as a family. We’re having a blast.”

A graduate of the Mannes School of Music – The New School in Manhattan, Zach has performed all over the world and organized several local charitable events. Most recently, he organized and performed at a benefit concert for a Nutley High School student in partnership with the Nutley Rotary, for which Zach is a board member. The event raised $8,000 to assist the student and his family during a difficult time.

Eric studied musical theatre at Montclair State University and performed for two seasons in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes. He also sings all over the world and recently completed a four-month engagement with an opera house in Maine.

The Sebeks have deep ties to the Nutley community. Christian is perhaps best-known in Nutley for his involvement with Nutley High School theatre productions and as a sought-after voice teacher. In fact, many of his students have landed lead roles in both high school and community theatre productions.

As a young boy, Zach first discovered NFSB through the Thrift Shop and his neighbor, Dolores Capalbo, who has volunteered at NFSB for 60 years.

“Dolores is wonderful person,” Zach said. “She lived next door to my family growing up. I also played soccer with Peg Conca’s son and we used to carpool to practice. Knowing people who were involved with NFSB, I started to see the impact of the work they do. I try to help whenever I can as a community member and sponsor, and we’re very excited to perform at The Garden Party.”

Christian Sebek has been preparing the program that the Sebek Tenors will perform at The Garden Party while accompanied by a pianist. Attendees can expect alternating solos, duets, and trios with a mix of opera, Broadway favorites, and pop music.

Tickets for The Garden Party this Saturday, September 14 from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Mountsier-Hardie Garden are just $75 in advance ($85 at the door) and can be purchased here. You can also make a donation if you are unable to attend. Given the expansion of the mental health program and increased demand for NFSB services and programs, your support is very much needed and appreciated.

“I love how The Garden Party makes it possible to impact people with one afternoon of celebrating together,” Zach said. “For my family, this is our way of saying, ‘Let’s celebrate the strides that NFSB has made, but also celebrate the fact that we’re able to support the organization in helping so many people.’ It’s gratifying to see everything come full circle.”
