“We’re grateful that our new board members are eager to contribute talent and treasure to this wonderful organization, continuing a longstanding tradition of community leaders giving back to the Greater Nutley area,” said Dave Popkin, President of the NFSB Board of Trustees, professional sportscaster, and CEO of Hilltop Management. “We expect demand for our services to increase again this year, and we need different skills, experiences, perspectives, and relationships to meet the moment. More hands make light work – and we have a lot of work to do.”
NFSB provided 10,011 mental health and psychiatric sessions in 2024, more than double the number of sessions from just four years earlier. The organization’s Food Pantry serves approximately 300 families, offering choice shopping for nutritious items by appointment and a mobile pantry for two local senior residences. NFSB’s case management program currently serves 50 individuals, while the Inclusive Healthy Communities initiative is providing a virtual conference, community trainings and working to make Nutley a more accessible, inclusive community for people with disabilities. NFSB also offers free monthly community events and operates a Thrift Shop, with proceeds benefiting its programs and services.
“We’re excited to welcome Gerard, Stephannie, Joe, Zachary, and Gina to our board of trustees,” said Katherine Carmichael, Executive Director of Nutley Family Service Bureau. “Our board is an impressive cross-section of individuals, each of whom brings unique skills and talents to the table. As we continuously improve and expand services that need to be managed, financed, and developed, these new board members will help us fulfill our mission and make a bigger difference.”
The mission of NFSB is to strengthen the social and emotional well-being of individuals and families through affordable mental health counseling and social service programs. The NFSB team is comprised of more than 30 staff members and more than 130 weekly volunteers.
