• Meet the Clinicians: Dr. Femi Omidire, APN, PMHNP-BC

With an impressive list of credentials and degrees, and more than a decade of clinical experience with several highly regarded mental health facilities, Dr. Femi Omidire, APN understands the value of patient-centered care and its impact on outcomes. He also knows how hard it can be to find a practice like Nutley Family Service Bureau (NFSB) that offers both mental health therapy and medication.

“It’s very rare,” Dr. Femi said. “Medication alone does not solve problems. After a client meets with me to discuss medication management, they can leave my office and go right down the hall for therapy instead of waiting weeks for an appointment someplace else. That’s part of what makes NFSB such a special place.”

Dr. Femi is an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Board Certified (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) from Rutgers University and a Master of Science in Nursing from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In his role at NFSB, Dr. Femi provides psychiatric evaluations and prescribes medication when appropriate to help clients manage symptoms and reach their goals.

Every client seen by Dr. Femi at NFSB has a therapist. He meets with therapists each week to discuss each individual client and their care plan. This collaborative approach enhances the patient-centered approach to care that Dr. Femi supports so strongly.

“During the pandemic, people were waiting six months for a one-to-one appointment,” Dr. Femi said. “You don’t have to wait for an appointment here. People can come here and get the help they need, both therapy and medication management.”

Prior to joining NFSB, Dr. Femi served as Clinical Director at Grace Medical Consult in Irvington, providing mental health and substance abuse treatment, psychiatric evaluations, and educational guidance. He also served as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Endeavor House North in Kearny, Assistant Director of Nursing – Behavioral Health at Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus, and psychiatrist and mental health provider at Absolute Awakenings Rehabilitation Center in Morris Plains.

When Dr. Femi first came to the U.S. 21 years ago, he started counseling people living with disabilities while attending school. However, his passion for supporting people with mental health conditions is driven by his love for his son, who is autistic. He focused on children early in his career but now treats children, adults, and seniors with a wide range of conditions, from autism and ADHD to depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

Of course, client progress and positive outcomes continue to motivate Dr. Femi each day.

“When I first meet a client, they might be sleeping too much, eating too much, not going to work, and just feeling sad all the time,” Dr. Femi said. “After a few months of therapy and medication, I see them going to the gym, spending time in public places, landing a better job, and finding a partner. That means so much more than a paycheck to me. Everyone at NFSB – from therapists to the Food Pantry and the Thrift Shop – we work as a team to provide patient-centered care. That’s very rewarding.”
